A UCLA student was arrested on charges of sexually assaulting a woman and possessing child pornography on Tuesday.
The incident occurred in the parking lot of the UCLA Health and Wellness Center, according to Los Angeles Police Department.
The woman told officers that the incident occurred on April 14 and she was walking down the street when she saw a man standing near her, the LAPD said in a statement.
She told officers she was sexually assaulted by the man on a number of occasions, but the assault did not involve drugs or alcohol, the police department said.
The man was identified as an 18-year-old male from Los Angeles.
He was booked into jail on suspicion of rape, indecent liberties with a child, sexual assault and possessing indecent liberties.
The LAPD said that it is investigating the case.
The university’s news release said that UCLA Health & Wellness has been notified and is cooperating with the LAPD.
The UCLA Health Department said in its statement that UCLA will provide support to the woman, as well as other students, staff and faculty.
The campus released the following statement in response to the sexual assault: “This is a sad, tragic incident that occurred at UCLA Health.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim and her family, as the university is working with law enforcement to bring justice to this unfortunate situation.
We will continue to provide support and resources to all students, faculty and staff impacted by this incident.”
The university also released a statement from the LAPD, saying that the sexual attack was a “significant and isolated incident,” and that the university would provide resources and counseling to students and staff.
